This year’s Palisades Residents Association annual meeting had a record attendance. Topics such as the proposed South Region High School #15 at Angels Gate and the Clearwater Program were a big draw.

Chuck Boehmke of the Clearwater Program presented a slideshow showing proposed construction areas where a new wastewater tunnel may be located. The chosen 4–8 acre site will have between 50 to 100 truck trips per day for seven (7) years to bring in equipment and remove dirt. The Palisades locations being considered are White Point Nature Preserve, Royal Palms Beach and Angels Gate Park.

“Pick Six” is a new buzz term for the Clearwater Program.
It means that everyone should welcome the Program to Indicated Potential Site #6 on Terminal Island.
The site in the Port of L.A. has railroad track to allow for less pollution by using trains to move the dirt and rocks. It also is ‘freeway friendly’ with two freeways that are easily accessable, if needed.
“Pick Six” is NOT in any residential area and it allows for better traffic flow than any other potential site.
It also allows for the most level course between the waste treatment plant and the outfall location under the Pacific Ocean.
I hope all individuals and groups gather together to strongly state that Indicated Potential Site #6 is the ONLY site that can hold the Program’s shaft, ground-level site, and acceptable areas.
Location 6, “Pick Six”, will be the most favorable Clearwater Shaft site for San Pedro residents, but it may be the most expensive of all potential sites. The tunnel distance to the outfall terminus is the longest of all the alternatives. Sites 12, 13 and 14 might be the most atractive locations for the planners.
I agree with Mark that we need to gather together, and to actively lobby our County Supervisor and LA City representatives for #6.

No matter what our opinion, it will not change their plans.
I am thinking of the new school location,the dog park, etc.
The powers that be, will have their way, no matter what the community thinks.
I hope I am wrong, but I wouldn’t place a bet on it.
